Cabot Trail

SAVE TIME | MAKE YOUR VACATION MORE ENJOYABLE AND STRESS-FREE

With experience leading two groups of cyclists on the Cabot Trail, both as a guide and for my own enjoyment, I’ve gained an intimate knowledge of all the must-visit spots after completing the Cabot Trail loop four times. After an entire month of immersing in its beauty during the summer, here are my go-to recommendations!

The charming town of Baddeck is a great starting point and a good refueling place before heading off on the loop. Be mindful that there are sometimes fewer facilities, so consider stocking up on supplies. The main street of Baddeck exudes a vibrant town vibe. You can enjoy a meal at The Freight Shed by the pier or The Cable Room at The Telegraph House, a fantastic farm-to-table restaurant which happens to be my favorite in town! Wondering where to stay in Baddeck? The Inverary Resort is a picturesque accommodation offering an abundance of amenities, or consider Bell View Bed and Breakfast for a cozy stay, or Selkie’s Rest for a lighthouse-themed cottage.

Continuing on the road, don’t miss out on Donalda’s Puffin tours if you are there during the summer. Observe these colorful birds in their natural habitat off Bird Island. Donalda, the tour guide, is highly knowledgeable. Plan your visit from mid-June to mid-August for the peak season.

For a premier resort experience in the Maritimes, The Keltic Lodge is an impeccable accommodation choice. I particularly love their outdoor morning yoga class overlooking the bay, their pool with a view, and the variety of dining options available. Plus, you’ll find nearby hikes and beaches. You won’t be disappointed!

Continuing along the trail, make a stop at Salt and Rose Cafe, a charming spot for breakfast or a light snack. If you’re in the mood for a short hike, White Point offers another breathtaking adventure with its vivid blues and ever-changing dynamic scenery. You’re bound to spot some birds in the surrounding area! For specific trail information, check All Trails.

If you’re up for some exercise, take a swim, go bodyboarding, or go for a jog at South Harbour Beach! Be sure to read the itinerary to ensure you don’t miss the access point.

For a unique and romantic experience, consider booking a dome accommodation with True North Destinations, offering views directly onto the ocean right from your bed! Rent a bike, embark on a whale-watching tour, or indulge in a yoga session. Don’t wait and book ahead! Pleasant Bay, although remote, is where you’ll find the most breathtaking scenery! This is the best spot along the Cabot Trail for postcard-perfect sights.

The Rusty Anchor is a must-visit restaurant for savoring local seafood, known for its generous portions and rustic ambiance. Why not end the day by watching the sunset from the Skyline Trail? Start planning about two hours before sunset, and you’ll be rewarded with a stunning panorama from a cliff with the water seemingly stretching into infinity.

Conclude your loop with a visit to Cheticamp, an Acadian village. Immerse yourself in the French side of Cape Breton. Take a dip at Plage St-Pierre in this sheltered bay. Try out restaurant L’Abri for a touch of whimsy, a cocktail and delicious food by the ocean. Or for a more casual dining experience, Wabo’s Pizza is the place to go! They have a friendly set up by the water.

Have fun experiencing the Magic of the Cabot Trail!
